Satin and silk fabrics are too similar, especially for the beginner. I believe that most of you mistake satin for silk when you first see it.
Let me tell you their difference in the following 5 points:
On both sides of the fabric, silk is smooth and pleasant to the touch. Satin is just smooth and pleasant to the touch on a single side.
From both the outside and inside of the silk fabric is glossy. Satin is gleaming from the outside surface of the cloth and matte from inside.
The cost of satin fabric is much lower than silk fabric.
Normally satin fabric is around US$1.55-US$3.17 per yard while silk fabric is around US$14.2-US$23.8 per yard.
The protein in silk is of excellent quality and is quite durable. However, the man-made satin fabric is a fragile material that is easily hooked.
Silk fabric: Choose a neutral detergent that does not contain fluorescent agents. Wash with warm water around 20 Celsius. Hand washing.
Satin fabric: Choose a neutral detergent. Machine wash cold is fine. Hand wash can prevent hooked problems during washing.
