Water base & plastisol base of silk screen printing

Silkscreen printing, also called screen printing is the process of pressing ink through a stenciled mesh screen to create a printed design. According to the different ink used, silk screen printing can be divided into water-based and plastisol bases.

Water-base silk screen printing

Just like its name, it features inks that are soft, breathable, and able to soak into the fabric of the garment, rather than a plastic layer on top of your clothing. When you touch the printing, you will feel like nothing on it and you will still see the fabric texture through the printing.

Advantage of water-based silk screen printing

  1. Super soft, breathable, and nature hand feel
  2. Keep the texture of the fabric well

Disadvantage of water-base silk screen printing

  1. Can only print on light-color fabric. Printing color has to be darker than fabric color.
  2. After washing around 5-10 times, printing color will fade a little (around 5%-15%)

Plastisol-base silk screen printing

Plastisol, as you might imagine, is plastic-based. Plastisol ink is thicker than water-based ink. It raises up above the clothing a little and it is more rigid compared to water-based ink. So you won’t see the fabric texture through the plastisol printing. If you scrunch up a garment, plastisol ink will feel stiffer.

Advantage of plastisol-base silk screen printing

  1. Long-lasting than water-based printing. Good plastisol-base printing, even you wash it 20-30 times, it still looks good, no cracks, no wash off the problem.
  2. No color limited. We can print light color ink on dark shirts and print dark color ink on light color shirts.
  3. The colors are more vivid and brighter than the water-base.

Disadvantage of plastisol-base silk screen printing

  1. Not breathable, especially the big size graphic.
  2. Not as soft as water-based printing, feel like a plastic layer on your shirt
