Not long ago, people used to only wear the hoody for morning runs and when wasting time on the couch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Just like the name implies, this hoodie is easy to wear, all you have to do is simply pull it over your head. These hoodies are also very easy and practical to wear. The hoodie was invented in the 1930s and its main purpose was to protect labourers who worked outside in cold temperatures. In the 1970s zip-up hoodies became mainstream and everyone started to wear them. In the 1990s, casual attire became more fashionable; thus, both pullover hoodies and zip-up hoodies soared in popularity. Today, the zip-up hoodie comes in men’s and women’s styles.

• Sweatshirt

Sweatshirts are long-sleeved pullovers that are made of thick cotton material that do not always have a hood. They are often called jumpers and are almost always used as casual wear. When a sweatshirt does have a hood, it is often called a hoodie even though it is formally still called a “hooded sweatshirt”.

• Baja hoodie

A Baja jacket (also known as a Baja sweatshirt, Mexican Baja hoodie, or drug rug) is usually made out of a coarse woollen fabric known as “jerga”. This type of hoodie is modelled after a Mexican jacket with one large pocket on the front and vents on both sides of the pocket.

• Cardigan Hoodie

Cardigan hoodies are loose-fitted garments that are usually longer than the average hoodie. They are commonly made with loose knitted fabrics and have large wooden buttons. These hoodies offer comfort and warmth for every occasion.

Colorblock hoodies are usually made of 2 cloth pieces of different colors. The color blocks make this hoodie look sophisticated while keeping the style colorful and subtle.

Oversized hoodies are designed to look like you are wearing many sizes larger. It is also one of the most popular styles of streetwear. It normally featured drop shoulders and a loose fit.

• Slim fit hoodie

The opposite of oversized hoodies is slim-fit or muscle-fit hoodies. This kind of hoodie is a favourite among fitness enthusiasts and athletes. Because it shows your muscles and body as well. You can always find it at sports brands easily.

• Boxy fit hoodie

Boxy fit hoodie has a similar biggy look as the oversized hoodie. However, it has a shorter body length. Normally boxy fit hoodie won’t be longer than the bottom line of your hip when wearing.

Longline hoodie, or extra length hoodie, is normally long enough to cover your hip. If it reaches to your thigh, we also call it hoodie dress. The longline hoodie with a curved hem is commonly found in sports hoodie. The length of the hoodie extends from the chest, to the waist, and to the buttocks, perfectly showing your body line.

• Cropped hoodie

Cropped items of clothing are shorter than normal, same does cropped hoodies do. In the 2010s, the crop top experienced a revival due to the popularity of 1990s fashion and they still remain popular in the 2020s.

The cropped hoodie with raw edge and I personally agree with the point of view of freedom of dressing, there should be no age limit for dressing. But cropped tops are more popular with young girls.

Long sleeve hoodie is no doubt the most common style.

• Short sleeve hoodie

Short sleeve hoodie can be considered a short sleeve t-shirt with hood. There is no clear line between them. I will say the only difference is the material.

• Cap sleeve hoodie and sleeveless hoodie

A cap sleeve is an extremely short sleeve that doesn’t extend very far from the shoulder and doesn’t go below the armpit. It looks like the brim of cap that is why it is called cap sleeve. Sleeveless hoodie is a hoodie with sleeves.
